Maverick — December 2009 |
|
 |
|
I am not sure if
you remember but I met you (Adaira) when my mom and I were in
Pennsylvania with my uncle and you showed us a little white bishon
named Maverick. We adopted Maverick, renamed Murphy, and he is doing
wonderful. I came home with Murphy and my uncle's 3 cats to add to
our 2 cats, 1 dog, 2 kids and 1 husband. My husband wasn’t sure what
to expect when I said I was bringing home a small dog. Well they are
the best of friends. Murphy sleeps with us every night, usually with
two cats on the bed with him and our golden retriever on the floor
next to the bed. He has really buddied up with one of the 6 year old
cats who is calico, they are always laying together on the bed or
coach or floor. The other cat we have does not run from Murphy,
probably because he weighs 20 pounds and is the same size as him,
but when Murphy walks by he sometimes smacks him. He still sits up
all the time and is great, he has a big yard to run and play in with
our other dog as well as other dogs in the neighborhood. He went
trick or treating with us when we took the kids and he dressed as a
pumpkin, everyone loved him. I still can not figure out why he was
brought in. He is great with kids very gentle and understanding,
which is good since we are expecting number 3 in June. He never
bites, if he does something he knows he shouldn’t he goes and sits
in his cage, usually we aren’t sure why. He wants to be where we
are. He still isn’t sure of riding in cars but I think he just gets
over excited and he will learn from the older dog just to lay down
and wait. He will be going to my parents house with the family and
other dog when we go for Christmas. He loves getting baths and we
often find him sitting in the tub whining because he wants a bath.
So I thought I would pass this along and update you on how well he
is doing.

Luna – December 2009 |

 |
|
Dear Washington Humane Society,
Hello again you may remember me, this is
Luna's mom Gina typing for Luna as she
still can't type with her paws. Luna is
going to be two in April, and I finally
got a picture of her and I as she hates
having her picture taken.
She also would like to say Meowy
Christmas and a Meowy New Year!

Geezer - December 2009 |
|
 |
|
My name is Geezer, and I’m named after a
member of a pretty famous rock n’ roll band.
I’ve had a pretty hard life. My name used to
be Scooter. I was living in the wild, and I
got shot. Luckily, a nice lady named Adaira
found me and took me to the Humane Society
where she works. In order to make me better,
the vet had to take one of my front legs.
But, I’m tough, so I still get around pretty
well. Adaira wanted to take me in, but she
has lots of pets and wasn’t sure if I would
be ok with all of those other critters since
I’m missing a leg. So, I was living at the
Humane Society and hoping to find my very
own person.
Mike became my person. He came into the
Humane Society with his Mom, and they
weren’t looking for me. They were looking
for a kitten for Mike’s Mom. They found a
kitten and adopted him that day. Mike also
saw me that same day. Although he wasn’t
looking for another pet, he really liked me,
but he wasn’t sure how the kitty that he
already had would feel if I moved in with
them. He went home without me that day, but
everyday for the next week Mike couldn’t get
me out of his mind. He really wanted to make
a place for me in his home, and he was
pretty sure that his other kitty would learn
to love me too. Mike came back to the Humane
Society the next week and told them that he
wanted to adopt me. Things worked out pretty
nicely. I get to sleep on the bed, soak up
the sunshine, and eat lots of good food. I’m
happy in my new home.
So, to all you other people out there with
nice, happy homes, think about making room
for a kitty like me. Even if we looked
handicapped, we still have lots of love to
give.

Skyler –
December 2009 |
|
 |
|
Well, I finally
did it! I got Adaira, a shelter
employee, to take me home. I worked my
magic by giving her kisses and talking to
her when she would come to check in on me.
If you remember me from Kitty Cat Corner I'm
the big girl who they put in the office to
get exercise. Well, I'm in a 2 story home
now, doing steps and following Adaira and
George all around the house. I sleep with
them too. I've learned in just a couple of
days how to get along with their other cats
and 2 dogs. I hissed at them the first day
and they just ignored me. How cool is that!
Now I'm in the sniffing stage. I'm getting
everyone's scent down pat. They caught me
lying next to my new kitty sister Sissy the
other night. They went on and on about how
wonderful I was. I was so embarrassed. Soon,
with the help of my diet food and increased
activity, I will be a lean, not so mean,
kitty cat machine. I'm sure Adaira will keep
everyone posted! A note to all the cats
still in the shelter... A little kiss and
some sweet talking will get you places...
just look at me! Love ya! Skyler

Mabel - December 2009 |
|
 |
|
Well, I destroyed most of my toys so Mum only gives me the Kong toys
for now. I just can't help myself - they don't make toys like they
used to! They don't make dog beds very well either if you ask me.
I killed four of them but hopefully this really expensive one will
last me a few more months. I don't know what it is - what I'm doing
wrong - really, I don't think it is me because Mum said I'm perfect
- beautiful, graceful, athletic, happy and healthy. What more could
you ask in a girl!
I talked to that fat guy Santa Claus (actually he is a friend of my
Dads! His name is George but I call him Uncle Santa since he has
the white hair/beard thing going on). I told him I want a cute
little turtleneck to wear when it's cold out and I want to impress
the boys, a new fancy leather collar and probably I will need
another expensive bed soon! Uncle Santa said no problem - my wish
was his command.

Bella - December 2009 |
|
 |
|
We
came in to help with some dog walking and we saw Bella. We
didn't plan to adopt but it was love at first sight for Lisa.
Bella is the first dog we've owned so its been quite an
adventure. We've
been together two years now and Bella has been a wonderful
addition to our family. We love taking her hiking, swimming and
running. Thank you for taking such good care of her and for all
of your advice and support once we got her home.
You all do a great job and there are lots of lucky cats and dogs
that find homes thanks to you. Merry Christmas.

Denali - December 2009 |
|
 |
|
My husband and I adopted a pit bull
from you in September. She was a little ten week old puppy named
Wilma. She is now a four month old named Denali. She is the best
puppy and we can just tell she is going to be the best dog. Her
favorite thing to do is give kisses. She kisses our cat, she
kisses my mom's three dogs, she kisses the walls, strangers,
feet, toys. She licks everything. She loves being a couch potato
and loves sleeping in bed with us. She is going to start puppy
kindergarten soon, once she turns six months. We just wanted to
thank you for giving us such a wonderful opportunity to adopt
our fuzzy child. She is truly a blessing. Here are some photos
that have been taken for her baby book. Photos are from
Halloween, to our camping trip, to car rides and everything in
between.
Thanks again, Rebecca and

Jackson – November 2009 |
|
 |
|
My
husband and I wanted to share some pictures of our boys
Jackson and Duke, both adopted from WAHS. We got Jack
(the big boy) last year and Duke the beginning of this
month.
Just a
quick note that they are fantastic! I don’t know what we
would do without them, more importantly; I don’t know
what they would do without each other!
Jack
is now 70lbs and loves any and all attention. He is a
big mama’s boy and an excellent big brother! We have
found that Jack is full of energy and is very
intelligent! Jack has learned how to sit, dance, speak,
roll over, play dead, fetches and swims! Jack is very
generous and gentle when it comes to food, treats, toys
and bones with his new little brother!
Duke
has made such an improvement since the first day we
brought him home. When we first adopted Duke, he was
scared of the world. He would shiver and cower when
anyone would touch him. He especially detested loud
noises and sudden movements. My biggest concern was that
Duke was extremely frightened of my husband. Luckily
after two weeks of patience and love, Duke now runs full
speed towards the front door when his daddy comes home
from work - Wagging his tail and ready for kisses!
Duke
was potty trained within the first week- loves to cuddle
and has already gained 8 lbs! We know that he will be a
big dog!! Most of all, we are so grateful that they are
such good buddies!
We
love them so very much!
We
appreciate everything you do at the Humane Society,
please continue your generosity.
Thank
You Kindly,
The Cromptons: Chad, Lauren, Jack and Duke

Susie – November 2009 |
|
 |
|
We wanted to
give you a quick update on how "Susie" is doing since her
adoption.
She's doing
GREAT! Her original paperwork showed her b-day as being
11/8/08. So she got a new name for her birthday (she didn't seem
to respond to Susie).
Introducing
Zoe! That shy/scared dog that was hiding under the desk in the
office is no more. And has already taken to her new name.
As soon as we
got her home and gave her time in our yard by herself the
transformation started. You could tell right away as she was
running all over the yard that she was coming out of her shell.
You could see in her face as I interpret the OMG look. Since
then that scared personality is gone.
Zoe still has
her shy, getting to know things moments but nothing like she
showed at the shelter.
She's doing
very well with her new buddy Sidney. They're the best of
friends. We couldn't have made a more perfect fit for him if we
tried. He's a retriever/shepherd mix, little over two with lots
of energy and she's just what he needed. They LOVE playing and
relaxing together.
We will
definitely bring her in to visit in a little while after we've
had a chance to work with her much more on her training. She's
already begun her walks in South Park and around the
neighborhood with Sidney. Her leash training is coming along
great.
We thank you
for making sure we met with her, she's ended up being the
perfect match to our family.
Best wishes
and thanks for taking care of her until we showed up!
We attached a
few pictures.

Shadow – October 2009 |
|
 |
|
Shadow has been doing so well this past
month, and we love him! Adopting an older
dog has its benefits. There were no chewed
shoes and no accidents, and he adjusted very
quickly to our home and routine. He loves
to lie on our feet in the evenings when we
watch TV And yet tell him it's time for a
walk, and he jumps up, circles, and is a
bunch of fun. His hip stiffness has
improved and he walks at a great pace on our
trail walks. Thank you all for taking such
good care of him and the other animals!

Isabella – October 2009 |
|
 |
|
Here’s an
update on Isabella, the six-month-old black and white kitten my
husband and I adopted September 19. From the moment we picked
her out of her cage and she just laid in our arms like a baby,
we knew our search was over.
She’s a
healthy, happy indoor kitten who loves to run through house at
full speed, play under the sheets when I’m changing the bed and
obsesses over laying in our bathroom sink and drinking water
from the faucet. (It gets a bit difficult when we’re trying to
brush our teeth!) While we couldn’t understand how she remained
at the shelter for six months without someone adopting her, we
think we may know why: she doesn’t (or can’t) meow!! Isabella moves
her mouth to form a sound but nothing comes out – even when I
inadvertently stepped on her tail. (Our vet says she’s very
healthy and that she’ll probably meow in time but then we’ll
wish she were quiet again.) We’ve been coaxing her to meow with
the Greenie treats that you sent home with her and have made
progress since she can now produce a very faint “eek” to get a
treat. I’m so glad she stayed quiet for so long because someone
else may have discovered our beautiful Isabella before we did!
You are all to
be commended for the care and love that you give all these
animals. We’d planned another name for the kitten but when we
were leaving to take her home, so many staff came to the door to
say “Goodbye Isabella, you found a new home!” “Goodbye Isabella,
be good to your new family!” “Isabella, are you’re finally going
home?!” It was absolutely heartwarming to think that so many
staff had interacted with her during her five months in a cage.
So yes, her name is still Isabella and it’s a beautiful name
that suits her.
On behalf of
Izzy, and especially from us, heartfelt thanks for taking such
good care of this kitten until we found her and brought her to
her new forever home.
The Hollicks
On a side note, we hope folks know that in addition to the
animals pictured on your website, there are a great number of
animals available for adoption at the shelter. All anyone needs
to do is stop by and we’re sure they’ll find a perfect match –
we certainly did!

Nellie–
September 2009 |
|
 |
|
We adopted a
cat from you a couple of months ago, and I had sent you an photo
and an update. We then took the plunge and adopted a dog. Her
name was Nellie when she was at your place, and we kept her
name. It fits her and she responds to it. She is a beagle mix.
We were nervous about adopting a dog, but we need not have
worried. Again we have gotten a wonderful pet from you! Nellie
has been great with our cats. She loves people and has a calm,
pleasant personality. She is very well-adjusted and we never
have to worry when we take her out. Which is her favorite thing
to do, take car rides and socialize. She is excellent with other
dogs and with kids especially. She fit right into our family and
we are very happy that we chose to adopt her. I'm attaching a
photo, this is Nellie in her favorite place outside, surveying
her very own yard.
Thanks again!

Cohen – August 2009 |
|
 |
|
Hi,
My name is Kara Jacobs and I did pet
portraits as a fund raiser with your humane society about a year
ago. I fell in love with a rot mix named Montey and couldn't
leave him behind. I just thought you would enjoy seeing some
pictures of him now. His name is now Cohen, I'm not sure why I
took a German dog and gave him a Jewish name...only to put him
in a santa outfit...but it seemed cute at the time lol He is my
best friend, and I'm not sure that I even understood what
unconditional love was until he came into my life. I just wanted
to thank you for all that you do and let you know that he has
changed my life. If there is anything that I can do to give back
.. whether it be volunteering or another photo shoot for fund
raising please let me know.
Forever grateful,
Kara

Molly — July
2009 |
|
 |
|
I have been wanting to write to you
and send you a photo of Molly in her new home. I adopted her in
Feb. of this year and she has done great. She has a fur sister
:) named Bailey and they love to play together and run around in
the yard all day long. She is an absolute dream, she was very
easy to house train, crate train, and warmed up to all of us
including my 20 month old daughter very quickly. Attached are a
few photos of her with her sister lounging out in the house.

Moose — June
2009 |
|
 |
|
I adopted a cat you called Moose, around
a month or so ago. Maybe longer
now? Anyway, I wanted to let you all
know Moose, now known as Nacho, has
settled in very well. He's a very happy,
loving cat who has managed to make
friends with the other three cats. My
youngest cat, Moo Shu, had been really
down in the dumps since we lost one of
our cats, who was his buddy. Now Moo Shu
has a playmate again and he's much
happier. Nacho loves all of us, but
especially me and one of my sons. He
spends his time, when he can, standing
or laying on his shoulders or mine and
loves to be carried around the
house. I'm attaching a couple of photos
that I think best show how much Nacho
seems to enjoy living with us. Thank you
for helping me find such a lovely cat.
I hope someday in the future to be able
to provide a home for another. Please
share this with the people in the cat
room, who were so helpful to me that
day.

Howdy a.k.a Roscoe "Old
Man" Jenkins — June 2009 |
|
 |
|
Just wanted to let you
know that Roscoe, (formerly known as Howdy), is
doing sooooo well!!! He is the absolute joy of our
family. He is actually running now and howling (not
barking)! It is so hilarious!!! He has quite a
personality. He’s not a big fan of dry dog food, but
loves Alpo and hot dogs. He is so finicky about his
food. If he doesn’t like what is in his bowl, he
butts the bowl with his head until he dumps it
over!! He has gained weight and he loves to be
outdoors with the kids He can jump up and down the
two steps that lead from the garage to the laundry
room. (He used to be afraid to go up and down those
steps, and we would have to carry him) He gets to
ride with us everywhere we go He did have a cold
once and you could hear the rattling from the phlegm
in his chest. We let him get lots of rest, plenty
of fluids and lots of love. He eventually started
to cough up the phlegm. He is just fine now. My
youngest daughter, Breanna, LOVES Roscoe to death.
He really is her best friend now. She treats him
like he is a baby…always holding him and rocking
him. However, yesterday, Breanna was out in the
backyard doing gymnastics. I guess Roscoe felt like
she wasn’t paying him enough attention, so he got a
running start and made sure he ran into the back of
her leg so that she would notice him. When she
turned around to look at Roscoe, he was just looking
up at her as if to say “What about me?” Oh….so
precious…….Thanks for allowing us to adopt
Roscoe….we love him!!
