Dog
Char-pei mix
Size: Medium
Age: Young
Sex: Female
Date: 12.13.09
Notes:
Though her photo is the picture of calm, she is a case study in
fear, actually frozen in place, afraid to move with legs of jelly.
Bella was adopted as a small pup and is now a year and a half old
and has none of the confidence, curiosity or playfulness that you
would find in teenage dogs typically. The diminutive girl with the
sweet face and mitten ears is a project in patience. She hasn't a
mean bone in her body and will not snap or bite, even when you pick
her up, which is the only way to get her outside at the moment. She
is deeply nervous, shy and fearful, requiring a great deal of time
and quiet calm understanding. She is coming around very slowly to
those she sees regularly, literally taking baby steps a few at a
time outside. Bella is not afraid of other dogs, but people are a
different matter. Bella is spending her time in the trailer with our
administrative assistant, Barb, but she would probably improve
faster in a home or foster home where she can get the attention and
care she really needs to grow her confidence and overcome her fears.
